Production Sprint 1.3


What we did this week.

The is the last week of the first production sprint. We tried to finish all the tasks that were in the progress stage so that we have our core mechanics ready to go. 

Mechanics

We tested the dodge mechanic and realised that we would better be off using another technique. But we are going to leave that and change it during the second sprint. After the team meeting last week we decided to remove the IK setup and the whole idea of separately moving the arms to indicate where each player wanted to go. It caused the arms to clip into the mesh itself producing some really weird results. So we decided to instead use arrows on the ground beneath the sumo to indicate where each player wants to go. The rotation of the arrows on the ground is working as intended so you can see where the other player is going and anticipate his movement. 

The main focus of this week was making sure the bumping, throwing and holding each other were working. Currently we are in the testing phase to discover the little bugs that we can't find. We already found some but more probably still remain. Hopefully we won't find very big bugs so we should be able to complete these at the start of next week.

The camera is behaving as intended. It shakes when you hit the player. The camera also zooms in and out based on the distance between the players. 

Technical Art

We also made the complete rig and skinning for the character. The skinning was quite a challenge. It took much longer than we hoped. That's why we have already added 2 animations to check whether it is working properly (idle and walking). 


Meshes and texturing

As for props we've added Trees and Throwing Rocks to the project. The trees have been added to the main scene, immediately giving the whole a more finished feeling. The rocks are yet to be implemented.


Problems during the second week.

Skinning caused a lot of misery. We tried to use mixamo's auto-rigger. Unfortunately it didn't work very well for our character. We had to manually skin the character, which took some time. As  result, we were unable to finish some models for this sprint

What are we doing next week?

Next week we will start with sprint phase 3. Everything that we've not been able to finish this week, will be moved toour backlog. We will discuss which tasks will be important for this new sprint.
